The Air Pistol Events

There are four ISSF Air Pistol events:

  • 10 M Air Pistol Mens - 60 shots
  • 10 M Air Pistol Womens - 40 shots
  • 10 M Standard Air Pistol
  • 10 M Rapid Fire Air Pistol

10 M Air Pistol; Mens & Womens

These are the Air Pistol events in the Olympics:

  • Men shoot 60 competition shots in a total time of 1 hour 45 minutes, including sighting shots
  • Women shoot 40 competition shots in a total time of 1 hour 15 minutes, including sighting shots

Preparation Time

Before the event commences the shooters have 10 minutes 'Preparation Time'. During Preparation Time shooters may:

  • set up and prepare their equipment at the allocated firing point
  • dry fire (provided there is no expulsion of propellant gas)

Preparation Time commences 10 minutes before the scheduled time for the relay.

Sighting

The shooters are allowed an unlimited number of sighting shots in the competition time. Once the shooter has switched to competition shots there are no further sighting shots allowed (unless authorised by the Jury; e.g. after an interruption to shooting)

Range Commands

  • 10 minutes before the scheduled start time

"Preparation Time Begins Now"

  • After 10 minutes

"Start"

  • 10 minutes before the completion of shooting time

"10 minutes"

  • 5 minutes before the completion of shooting time

"5 minutes"

  • At the completon of shooting time

"Stop"

Pistol

Pistols for the ISSF 10 M Air Pistol (Mens & Womens) event must meet certain requirements:

  • calibre 4.5 mm (.177"); propelled by gas (usually compressed air or CO2)
  • only open sights allowed
  • Fit in a box 420 x 150 x 50 mm
  • The grip may not start to encircle the hand
  • The grip may not support beyond the wrist
  • Powered by compressed air or gas
  • Maximum weight 1500 grams
  • Minimum trigger weight (pull) 500 grams
  • Compensators, muzzle brakes, perforated barrels are allowed.

  • 4.5mm pellets - lead projectiles only

  • calibre 4.5 mm (.177"); propelled by gas (usually compressed air or CO2)
  • fit in a box 420 x 150 x 50 mm
  • minimum trigger weight (pull) 500 grams
  • maximum 1500 grams
  • no curvature of the grip around the hand (even partially)
  • open sights only (no scopes or mirror sights)
  • The grip may not support beyond the wrist
  • Compensators, muzzle brakes, perforated barrels are allowed.

  • 4.5mm pellets - lead projectiles only
