Shooting wiki is dedicated to both the practical and theoretical aspects of competitive shooting including Rifle, Pistol, and Shotgun shooting with an emphasis on ISSF and Olympic Shooting, a competitive form of target shooting covering pistol, rifle and shotgun which can lead to perhaps the greatest prize of all time; an Olympic Gold Medal.
Paradoxically Olympic shooting is a gentle sport requiring the fitness, balance, the poise of a gymnast and the concentration got a chess master. Olympic shooting is one of the safest sports; with athletes largely remaining free of the sports injuries, particularly those that can be associated with hockey, rugby, soccer and even running. The abuse of performance enhancing drugs is also very rare within the sport.
The International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF) is the international governing body responsible for both promoting international shooting sport and for providing its Rules and Regulations. The International Olympic Committee (IOC) recognizes the ISSF as the international body representing shooting and 15 ISSF Events are included in the Olympic Games. National Governing Bodies are responsible for the sport within their own country and for selecting eligible athletes to appear in both international events including Intershoot, the World Cup and the Olympic Games.
The sport is open to both men and women and takes many forms (disciplines) including pistol, rifle and shotgun shooting. The sport is also open to Disabled Shooters, including Blind Shooters, through the International Shooting Committee for Disabled
